Book of the Year Givaway!

If you saw my blog article from a few weeks ago, you will know that I selected the following book as my book of the year for 2011:

I really can’t recommend this book highly enough. And what’s the best way to recommend a book to people? Give them a copy!

So, I’m goingΒ  to give away a copy of DIVERGENT!

I would love to be able to give a copy to everyone who reads my blog, but I’m not Oprah (really–have you seen my picture?), so I can only afford to give one copy away. But who to give it to?

Here’s what I propose. If you look at the tabs, next to the one that says “Awards” you should see one that says “Giveaway.” All you have to do to have a chance at winning a copy of DIVERGENT is to comment on that page. At the end of the month (January 31st–11:59 pm ET), I will close the giveaway, and soon after pick a comment at random. That person will receive the book. Simple as that.

Do I need to be one of your Google Connect Friends? No. Of course, if you’re not one of my GFC friends, I would love you to join. But it’s not required. You just need to want the book.

If I’m already one of your GFC friends–am I automatically entered? Sorry, no. Even if you are one of my GFC friends, you still need to comment to enter. It’s possible some of you already have DIVERGENT, so it makes the odds better for those that don’t if I don’t automatically include you. Really, I’m just trying to be fair.

Do I need to subscribe to your blog? No. Sure, I would love for you to subscribe, if you haven’t already. But you don’t have to.

Do I get extra credit if I tweet, blog, or otherwise advertise this giveaway? Nope. Please feel free to tweet, blog, and/or otherwise advertise this giveaway–but you only get one entry for commenting on the Giveaway page. No extra entries for advertising.

Are you making some kind of statement about people who run competitions to get people to subscribe to their blogs? Absolutely not! I have no issue with those who run competitions just to get visitors to their blogs. The giveaway is a time-honored and well-respected promotional tool, and I daresay I will use it myself in the future. Just not this time. This giveaway is all about DIVERGENT. And seriously, if I had the money, I’d just send it to anyone that asked for a copy. It’s finances that limits me to giving away only one book.

Do I need to live in the US? I plan to order the book from The Book Depository, so you just need to live in one of the countries to which they deliver.

What if I comment on this post, or some other post, but not the Giveaway page? I’m only counting those people who comment on the Giveaway page.

Is DIVERGENT really so good that you are willing to spend your money to give a copy to someone else, asking nothing in return? Yes. πŸ™‚

I hope the rules are clear. If not feel free to use the comments below to ask questions. Thank you!

Well, if you want a chance to get a copy without having to pay for it, comment in the Giveaway page! Unless you can’t wait until Jan 31st to find out if you’ve won and have to have it now, which I *completely* understand. πŸ™‚

Awesome–I have a copy already but this is a really fun giveaway. There’s still time to enter mine if you’d like–I confess, I do hope some new folks will check out my blog because of it but I want the folks I already know to get in there as well πŸ™‚

Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with doing giveaways to draw attention to your blog (at least IMO). I certainly hope a few more eyes will pass by my little corner of cyberspace… just this time I chose not to make it a requirement. Next time, I might.

As for your totally cool giveaway–I’ve entered. πŸ™‚ If anyone else wants to take part in Mrs. S.’s giveaway, you can find out more about it here!

Great choice of a book! I already have it so I’ll let the others have a fair chance.

Thanks, Lydia! I’m afraid so many people already have DIVERGENT not many will enter the giveaway–that’s the problem with choosing such a great book. Oh well, we’ll see. πŸ™‚

It’s a great book. I really do wish I could afford to just send you all a copy, but I’m not at that point in my writing career… yet. πŸ™‚
