The Novel
Here is the query letter I wrote for my latest novel. I am in the process of trying to get an agent, so this novel is as yet unpublished. If you happen to be an agent, and would like to see more, please contact me: cds-at-colindsmith.com (change the -at- for @).
Alexandra Taylor is sixteen years old and facing the most important exams in her five years at St. Joseph’s Church of England school. But she doesn’t care. She wants to drink, have sex, and antagonize the “God-freaks” with her friends.
One “God-freak” she would particularly like to compromise is Michael Dyer. Michael has a track record of non-starter relationships, but despite his romantic failures he still clings to his faith in God and in “true love.” To his friends he’s naïve. To Alexandra, he’s bait.
Alexandra sets out to prove the power of lust over love, passion over principle, with Michael as her pawn. But instead of scoring a sweet conquest, she is forced to face the person she has become, and becomes a person she never thought she could be.
As the new Alexandra tries to gain acceptance among those she once mocked, her greatest challenge is with her former friends who now consider her a traitor. She wants to show them true friendship; they are determined to teach her a lesson she’ll never forget.
ALEXANDRA is an 80,000 word YA Contemporary novel set in England.

That sounds brilliant, Col. Can’t wait to read it! Hint hint

If I were an agent I’d totally request pages, and I’m agnostic!
Let me know when this is in bookstores. I’d love to read it!
Great letter…sounds like a good read too!
Hah! This sounds great! Good luck with the agent hunting. I’m currently in the same boat… Did you enter this into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest?
I didn’t. I have thought about entering that contest at some point. If I don’t get any takers for it, I might do that… maybe next year?
I wish you all the best with it – which ever direction you decide to go in
Let me know when it’s published, I’d like to read it!
Not usually a Ya contemporary reader, but the questions of faith here are intriguing on a very personal level. Good luck with your agent search!
